PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE RIBBON CUTTING
June 28, 2013 (Williamson County, TX) – –Walkers in the Rattan Creek neighborhood now have a new connection between Dallas Drive and the Rattan Creek Trail. A ribbon cutting will be held on Thursday, July 4, at 9 a.m. for a pedestrian bridge in North Austin Municipal Utility District (MUD) No. 1. The bridge spans Rattan Creek upstream of the Tamayo Drive crossing. The ribbon cutting will be held on the Dallas Drive side of the bridge.
“The bridge is a great connection to the park as well as Pond Springs Elementary,” said Precinct 1 Commissioner Lisa Birkman.
The cost of the bridge was $341,677.40 and was funded with $125,000 from the MUD and $235,000 from Capital Metro through the Build Greater Austin Funds, which is a rebate of sales tax collected by Capital Metro administered by the county to spend in their service area. The bridge is a prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge and is approximately 120 feet by 8 feet wide pedestrian bridge. Trail improvements were made to connect the bridge to the Rattan Creek Trail and sidewalk. In addition, a pedestrian beacon with flashing lights was added at Tamayo and Grovedale for walkers to safely cross the street to access Rattan Park.
A Rattan Creek Neighborhood Association parade will begin following the ribbon cutting ceremony on the Dallas side of the bridge, crossing over the bridge and continuing to Tamayo by way of the walking path.
