At a recent special meeting on February 29, 2024, the District’s Board of Directors adopted new tax exemptions applicable to District property owners in both Williamson and Travis Counties.
These include
- A Homestead Tax Exemption: This is a new exemption added. An individual is entitled to an exemption from taxation by the District of 5% of the appraised value of their homestead. If this percentage produces an exemption in a tax year of less than $5,000 when applied to a homestead, the individual is entitled to an exemption of $5,000 of the appraised value of his or her homestead.
- Increase to disabled persons to $40,000: The Board increased the disabled persons exemption to $40,000 (up from $15,000 previously).
- Increase to 65 and older to $25,000: The Board increased the over 65 persons exemption to $25,000 (up from 15,000 previously).
- An eligible person who is 65 or older and disabled, cannot receive both exemptions, but will need to choose one or the other.
Should you have questions about exemptions available to you please contact the Property Appraisal office for your home as shown below. If you have already claimed a homestead, disabled, or over 65 exemption in a previous tax year, these new exemptions will automatically apply.
